Your Brand is more than your Logo

It is the story you tell the world - and more importantly, the story the world remembers about you. Think back for a moment.

What is your first memory of noticing a brand?

Not consciously analyzing it - but spotting it. Recognizing it. Feeling something about it.

Maybe it was a signboard on a busy street.
Maybe it was packaging on a shelf.
Maybe it was something you saw every single day on your way to school.

You didn’t know it then, but that was branding at work.

Today, communication has become inseparable from the landscape of any city.

Step out. Sit at any signal. Walk through any street.
You’ll find stories everywhere.

Billboards, storefronts, digital screens, packaging, uniforms -
everything is trying to say something.
Everything is trying to be remembered.

And behind each of these is intent.

Someone has spent money.
Someone has spent time.
Someone has made a conscious effort to place a message in front of you.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth -
not everything you see, stays.

Recognition is easy.
Memory is not.

"And branding lives in that gap."

Each of us, as creators, founders, designers, has the ability to do better.

Because building a brand is not just a creative exercise.
It is a responsibility.

A responsibility to build something you can stand by.
Something you can be proud of.
Something that doesn’t just appear - but stays.

We live in a time where consumption is constant.

There is always something to watch, read, scroll, or buy.
Attention is fragmented. Memory is fragile.

Which is exactly why surface - level branding no longer works.

A logo alone won’t carry you.
A color palette won’t sustain you.

What will?

Roots.

This is where real branding begins.

Not at the surface - but beneath it.

In understanding what you stand for.
In anchoring your work in the dreams, desires, and realities of the people you want to serve.
In building something that resonates before it sells.

Because when your brand has roots, it doesn’t need to chase attention.
It earns recall.

So how do you know you’re doing it right?

Not when people recognize you.
But when they remember you.

Not when you reach people.
But when people return.

Your story starts spreading - without you forcing it.
Your customers don’t just buy - they believe.
They stay. They share. They advocate.

And slowly, quietly -
your brand becomes something more than what you created.

It becomes something people carry with them.

That’s when you know branding beyond making the logo is done right.

This sums up how a brand becomes a part of our routine! There are so many things for a brand to become our identity! I remember the logo of Hindustan Lever from my childhood!

  • Very true, a brand is the story that justifies the journey and process of the brand owner and all the why and how of it. The logo is just the summary that comes on the back cover of a book, while the brand is the whole story that adds more to the summary which gave a gist of the brand.
